I am a big movie buff and more than often find myself thinking what movie to watch? Nowadays, a lot of movie recommendation engines have popped up that claim to solve this problem for you. We looked at 4 of them that use an intelligent script to recommend movies you might like:
1. NanoCrowd:
NanoCrowd is one of the simplest yet most effective Movie Suggestion Services. No registrations or sign-ups. Simply head over to NanoCrowd.com and start typing the name of any movie you like. The auto-complete feature would help you fill in the name if you don’t remember the complete thing.
Once you have entered a movie name, NanoCrowd asks you for a 3-word NanoGenre based on the movie you specified. These genres are not your standard genres like Action, Thriller e.t.c., rather, they are an intelligent combination of genres extracted from the movie you entered. Once you select a 3-word NanoGenre, you will be provided with suggestions of movies you are bound to like.
2. LivePlasma:
LivePlasma probably has the most unique and graphically appealing way to display similar movies. Once you enter the name of a movie you like and click submit, LivePlasma creates a colorful mashup of similar movies. The most common similarity, however, is the creator of the movie and most of the recommended movies are the one by the same creator.
The whole movie-map or mashup idea is pretty cool as it clearly puts the most relevant movies closest to the original movie, and moves farther as the similarities in the movies decrease.
3. TasteKid:
TasteKid is another great tool to get movie suggestions. After you have entered the name of a movie you like, TasteKid would recommend other movies and books you might like. There are no additional details provided besides the movie name, however, if you click on the little question mark icon after each movie, a pop-up will tell you all the details about the movie including a possible clip from YouTube.
I like TasteKid for its simplicity and speed.
4. WhatToRent:
WhatToRent is probably the most time-consuming movie recommendation engine, however, they are rumored to come up with the most intelligent recommendations. They start with asking you 20 questions about yourself and then recommend one movie at a time. For each movie, you can either tell them you have watched it, you don’t want to watch it or move on to get another pick.

I’ve found Jinni to be the best movie recommendation experience. Appealing UI, brilliant search, and recommendations that have already directed me to several good movies.
