After its launch, the iPad took the world by storm with its sleek design and easy portability. Add to these the amazing variety of apps that you can use on your Apple tablet and you have the access to virtually everything you can imagine. With apps like the one launched by Khan Academy, your iPad can become your motivation towards education and learning.
The brainchild of Sal Khan, Khan Academy is a not-for-profit organization which provides you access to around 3,000 videos based on different educational themes. These themes vary from the simplest of Algebraic concepts to the complex cosmic equations to guiding students for their college SATs preparation among many others. Until very recently, the organization was relying on its website alone for carrying on its mission to encourage learning. Their leap towards bringing out an iPad app is reflective of their strategy to make education easily available to people, no matter where they are.
With the app, any person with a thirst for knowledge can access the uploaded videos and download them to their device for viewing them offline. What the app developers should be commended for is the fact that they have kept its downloadable size to as small as 1.6MB, helping the users download the app quite quickly, without worrying about any unreasonable requirements for memory space.
The lectures are delivered by the founder Sal Khan himself, with provisions for teachers and parents to see how the students are performing. Moreover, since Khan’s philosophy revolves around employing teaching methodologies which he wished to see as a student, there are different resources and materials available for guiding teachers as well.
The only place where the iPad app lags behind is the non-availability of the 300 exercises for practice that are readily available on the website. The Khan Academy iPad app can be downloaded for free from iTunes.
