Over at makeuseof.com , somebody did an awesome job of putting together information on how to send an email to any cellphone for free. The complete article is here but in short, most of the cell phone carriers worldwide have a standardized free service that people can use to send email to any cell phone which would be received by the recepient as an SMS.
For example if you want to send an email to a t-mobile cell phone, you’ll send it to number@tmomail.net where “number” is the 10-digit number including the areacode. (Like 123456789@tmomail.net).
This is a veryuseful tool if you have to send information to your cellphone and don’t have an internet enabled cel phone. For example, you can email all the directions to your cell phone as an SMS and avoid printing half a dozen pages of mapquest directions.
Following are the details for some of the other major carriers. For a complete list of these, I would recommend the complete list and a very healthy follow-up discussion here.
