Mr. Number is a caller ID app that uses principles of crowdsourcing. If someone you don’t know calls you or sends you a text message, Mr. Caller will check its database for information on that phone number. That information is supplied by other users of Mr. Number. To use Mr. Number for free, you will also have to share your contacts with its database.
Mr. Number is helpful for screening out people you don’t want to talk to, but who have a number you don’t know: telemarketers, prank callers, scam artists, text message spammers. The Mr. Number community collects information on these phone numbers and its collaborative efforts lead to a name being returned in 70% of searches for U.S. numbers. A lot of times, Mr. Number can show you the name of who is calling you before you pick up the phone. But even if you just have a number and have forgotten the name to it, you can reverse look up the number using Mr. Number’s database.
Finally, Mr. Number also automatically backups all your contacts online.
Mr. Number is free and available on Blackberry App World. If you don’t want to share your contacts with the Mr. Number database, you will have to pay for a premium account.
