Even with the presence of a number of browser options for iOS available at the App Store, Safari has managed to be the most widely used browser for users of iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. However, Safari might face some stiff competition with the launch of Yahoo! Axis, Yahoo!’s recently launched web browser for which the cyberspace giant launched as an iOS app earlier this month. This might make Yahoo! and ultimately Axis score extra brownie points as other leading web browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are yet to launch their official clients for Apple devices.

One of the most prominent features of the newly released Axis iOS app is its support for extensions from other leading browsers. By syncing with these extensions, the app accesses your existing bookmarks, favorites and items marked for reading later. For syncing your desktop extensions and bookmarks with the browsers, the app requires you to sign in to your Yahoo! ID.

Much like Google Chrome’s PC version, the Yahoo! Axis app allows users to type in a keyword into the search tab and view the results without having to navigate away from the already existing window. However, Axis has managed to improve on this feature by opening the search results in a separate bar on the upper side of the screen, which does not disturb the main contents of the page you had opened before.
